June 5-6: There will be Spring Tractor Ride, hubbing out of Bloomfield. Tractors will leave from Bloomfield on June 5 and return that night for a meal and lodging. Then on June 6, the ride will go out in another direction from Bloomfield. Pre-registration and fees are required. June 6-7: Bloomfield Citywide Garage Sales are scheduled for both Friday and Saturday. This event, which in the past had been coordinated by Bloomfield Main Street, is now being handled through The Bloomfield Democrat. Maps will be created listing all of the garage sales happening that weekend. The deadline to be included on the citywide garage sales map is Thursday, May 29. The public will be able to pick up the free flyers at the newspaper office. For more information, contact The Bloomfield Democrat at 641-664-2334 or www.bdemo.com.
June 7: The Floris Flag Day always promises a full day of fun! Enjoy various activities, food, games, and fellowship with others as the 38th annual Flag Day is celebrated.
June 14: The Friends of Lake Wapello will be sponsoring a Lake Wapello Shore to Shore 5K-10K Run/Walk. The event will start at the Lake Wapello State Park General Beach House/Restaurant. June 14: Also happening on June 14 is a new event – the Southeast Iowa Museum Crawl is from 9am-5pm. There are four museums being featured: Davis County Historical Complex (Bloomfield), Maasdam Barns (Fairfield), Pearson House (Keosauqua) and the America Gothic House Center (Eldon). As a part of this Museum Crawl, “Star Passports” will be available. People having their “passport” punched at all four locations will be eligible to win a Southeast Iowa Museum Crawl Gift Basket. At the Davis County Historical Complex, highlights include a rededication of a Civil War Medal of Honor at 11am. Activities throughout the day include: spinning wheel, quilting, blacksmithing, dutch oven cooking buttermaking, cream separating, plus more. The other three sites also have special activities planned throughout the day.
June 21: Another new event this year is “Bike the Byway”. The 47-mile ride, which features the Historic Hills Scenic Byway, will begin in Ottumwa and go through Blakesburg, Unionville, Drakesville and end up in Bloomfield. (As an added bonus, if 47 miles isn’t quite enough, cyclists can add an optional loop through Lake Wapello State Park before they head into Drakesville.) The registration fee is $25. Proceeds from this event will benefit the local efforts of Historic Hills Scenic Byway and hopefully support future rides.
